About the standard
Created in 2006, the ProTerra Standard is internationally recognised for establishing comprehensive criteria for social and environmental sustainability and the traceability of agricultural and agro-industrial supply chains. The standard includes requirements related to:
- Legal compliance and management systems;
- Human rights and responsible labour practices;
- Engagement with workers and communities;
- Biodiversity conservation and environmental management;
- Absence of genetically modified organisms (Non-GMO);
- Waste management and pollution control;
- Water resource management;
- Energy management and greenhouse gas emissions;
- Good agricultural practices;
- Traceability and chain of custody.
